Educate and Advocate
Be an Advocate for Surrey's Cats
Everyone can play a role in improving the lives of cats in our community. By educating others and raising awareness about cat overpopulation, you can help create lasting change for cats and the people who care for them.
Here are a few ways you can make a difference:
-
Talk about the importance of spaying and neutering. Encourage family, friends, and neighbours to have their cats spayed or neutered to help prevent unwanted litters and reduce the number of homeless cats.
-
Support affordable veterinary care. Encourage your veterinarian to offer free or low-cost spay and neuter services for individuals and families with limited incomes.
-
Share your knowledge. Give a presentation at your school, church, workplace, or community group about responsible pet ownership, community cats, and the importance of spay and neuter programs.
-
Contact your local elected officials. Write to the Mayor of Surrey and City Councillors to express your concerns about cat overpopulation and ask what actions the City is taking to address the issue. You can find Council contact information on the City of Surrey website.
If you receive a response from the City, we would appreciate it if you could forward a copy to surreycats@shaw.ca. Your feedback helps us better understand community concerns and advocate for meaningful solutions.
Together, through education, advocacy, and community action, we can build a future where every cat has the opportunity to live a healthy, safe, and cared-for life.
